Neutralize our accent?

Should we get rid of our accent to land more jobs, or is our accent our Unique Selling Point? And what are voice-seekers looking for, when they need a "neutral" English accent? Are they asking for…Continue

Why you need a versatile European voice

What goes through your mind when you hear a British accent? Stiff upper lip... snobbish... Simon Cowell? There's a reason why movie villains and stuffy professors are always played by Brits. Here's the thing: I can be a terrible snob if that's what you want me to be. Or not.

Why do most American voice-actors sound so in-your-face, hyped-up or like that movie trailer man? Is that what you need for your game? Well, if you must have an IN YOUR FACE-character.... I can be that too!

But if you wish to avoid these stereotypes and pick a fresh, more European sound... look no further. I can be:

-very serious and extremely silly
-German, Dutch, French, Italian, Russian, British
-sincere and devious
-introvert and outrageous

But don't take my word for it.... TRY ME, I'm always game!

In case you need it, here's my website www.nethervoice.com

The Mic Warmer: launching a true innovation

Posted on April 1, 2010 at 4:58 0 Comments

“Paul, I think you’re on to something,” said Heinz Gruenewald. Heinz works for the world-renowned Westdeutscher Rundfunklabor in Germany, and he’s one of the top sound wave specialists. He has several patents in nanomaterials, acoustic devices, transducers and sensors in his name.

AN UNUSUAL TALENT

Just like some wine connoisseurs are born with an extraordinary palette, Heinz is blessed with extraordinary hearing. As you know, you can let an oenophile taste a glass of wine, and… Continue

Home Studio on a Budget

Posted on March 13, 2010 at 13:19 0 Comments

There's no place like home, especially for a voice-over studio!

The other day, I had to be in Philadelphia. On paper it was a 75 minute drive. I left at 6:00 AM in order to be on time for my 9:00 AM appointment.

You guessed it, I spent most of my time with hundreds, if not thousands of others, stuck in a metal box on wheels, polluting the environment and getting nowhere fast.

I had plenty of time to reflect on the advantages of my home studio. Of course the… Continue

BURSTING THE AUDITION BUBBLE

Posted on February 26, 2010 at 23:52 0 Comments

At the end of a two day “voice-over intensive”, the trainer looked at her students one last time. By the expression on her face they could tell she was about to say something significant.

Her velvet voice had sold millions of sheets of the softest bathroom tissue known to mankind. Anything that came out of her mouth was as good as gold. Star-struck, the students all listened like attention-deprived orphans, waiting to get one last bit of tough… Continue

MAYHEM AT NEWSPAPERS FOR THE BLIND

Posted on February 2, 2010 at 4:34 0 Comments

Posting jobs under false names, not paying invoices and Jekyll and Hyde-treatment of voice-over talent… these appear to be the trademarks of William May.

Mr. May is the founder and editor of Newspapers For The Blind Organization,Inc, a web –based service, offering a daily selection of newspaper articles for the vision impaired, read by voice-over pros. The site was quietly launched during the last quarter of 2009 (and should not be confused with NFB-Newsline®).

The idea… Continue
